One in Four Mission Statement
Primary Mission: To end men's
sexual violence against women
In order to accomplish this goal, we shall follow these principles:
- To put the needs of survivors first, by respecting their confidentiality and helping to provide support in any manner that will help them in their recovery.
- To always act in a manner consistent with our teachings and to set an example for all men by treating every woman with respect. We will also reject all forms of discrimination as well as combat attitudes and social norms that lead to sexual violence.
- To educate men and participate in outreach that will help break the silence about and end violence against women. We will take an active role in ending rape and encourage others to do the same.
- To use the most effective research-proven means to accomplish our primary mission, including but not limited to the Men's Program. Accordingly, so long as rigorous social scientific research continues to strongly suggest that sexual assault peer education is most effective in a single-sex environment, we will limit our membership as an all-male group.
- To respect and support one another, as well as train a diverse and approachable group, in order to reach as much of the University community as possible.
- To participate in a larger community of people working for sexual assault education and advocacy while supporting and reinforcing its efforts.
We recognize that the mission outlined above will be difficult, but we are dedicated to hastening the arrival of the day when our group is no longer needed.
