So What is This About?

Virginia Competitive Cheerleading provides the opportunity for any University of Virginia student to develop and enhance his or her athletic abilities while pursuing an interest in competitive cheerleading. Tryouts are held in early fall and members participate in year-round mandatory practices working toward a final routine. Routines consist of stunting, tumbling and dance sequences, and the team competes in multiple regional and national competitions throughout the Spring semester

Participation

To participate in any tryouts, practices, competitions or other related event, the individual must be a University of Virginia student or faculty/staff member. He or she must also fill out and sign a release form and a b behavior agreement.

Joining the squad calls for a time commitment. The squad practices 3 times a week and sometimes more once competition season begins.

We don't just cheer! The squad particpates in numerous events throughout Spring and Fall semester consisting of fundraising events, team bonding and strengthening activities, social mixers with other sports teams and fraternities, weekend getaways to various locations, and professional clinics held in the DC area, Richmond, and Virginia Beach.

Please contact us if you've never cheered before and want to learn more information about cheerleading as a sport, and the competition program here at Virginia. We encourage gymnasts to come out and tumble!

Benefits

Why participate? Joining the squad provides an all around experience, socially, mentally and physically. Meeting new people, staying in shape, having a close-knit group of girls you can count on, and of course being able to continue your cheerleading career into college.

Requirements

Time Commitment, a positive attitude, ability to learn and works well with others!

Cheer experience is preferred

Dues are also collected once a semester to support costs including, uniform and apparel, competition fees, gym rentals, travel costs, and clinic costs. Dues fluctuate every year, but we do have payment plans and funraising opportunities available for those with limited funds. Please contact Bri Rizzo with any questions: money should not inhibit anyone from cheering!
