The UNC tournament this past weekend was a huge success.  Not only did we sweep all three teams, but the offense finally clicked and put up some big numbers.  Beat UNC in a close game 8-7 on Friday night...good efforts on both sides.  Timmy G hopped on the night train and put up 6 points (5 goals and 1 assist).  On Saturday, we put a hurting on Duke 11-2 and (#5) MD 10-5.  Offense was $$$ this weekend with a wide distribution of goals, extremely fulfilling to finally have some fun on offense and rack up doulble digits.  Congrats to the team for having secured a playoff birth.

Tonight, UVA is hosting JMU 7PM at Carr's Hill field in a high stakes playoff game...winner will advanced to the Elite Eight in Annapolis. It's guaranteed to be a heated thriller under the lights as the Blue Ridge rivals faceoff. Having been disrepected by the NCLL rankings once again, it's time to prove our true ranking. Come support the team as we begin our playoff rampage.

Two weeks ago the team had a tough loss to #2 Navy 11-5. After coming out to a quick 3-0 start, the team slowly lost momentum mid-way through the second quarter. The Hoos visibly lost their step and were unable to find defense or offense stability for the remainder of the game.

The Hoos have taken a much needed week break after three tough weekends at JMU's round robin, MD's tournament, and game against Navy. Hopefully this break will prove advantageous this upcoming weekend as nagging injuries have played a role in the team's performance. On Friday, we will be heading down to Chapel for UNC's Southern Shootout (The Real ACC Tournament) with games against UNC @ 7:30PM Friday, Duke @ 11:00AM Saturday, and MD @ 1:00PM Saturday if all goes according to plan. Time to put up one more strong push before Tournament Selection time next weekend...

Going 1-2, the team had a disappointing weekend up at UMD's Beltway Bash. Offensively, the team suffered from turnovers and missed opportunities, placing a huge burden on the defense. In the three games against Loyola (L 3-2 OT), Rutgers (L 3-1), and Salisbury (W 3-1), the Hoos averaged only 2 goals per game. The poor offensive performance cost the Hoos their #3 ranking, dropping all the way down to #12. It'll be back to the drawing boards this week with a huge game against #1 Navy on Saturday. Hoo will be stepping up this week?

If this weekend taught us nothing else, it's that our defense is arguably the best in the league. Having spent a solid 75% of the weekend on defense, we really tested our poles and goalies...the story was takeaway after takeaway after takeaway and saves all day from our three keepers: Robertson, McClammrock, and Perez. Hats off to our close defense: Althouse, Anderson, and Hecker; our LSM's: Turner, Shikani, and Roos, and Kelly for his phenomenal short stick play at X and defense.

Hoos had two exciting wins yesterday at the UREC fields in Harrisonburg, VA. The team came ready play sporting the new jerseys for the first time this semester. Matching up first against #2 DII Lynchburg, the team grinded out a hard earned 6-5 win with contributions from Burns (1 G), Barrazotto (1 G), Clay (1 G), Gaylord (1 G), Kelly (1 G), and Slaughter (1 G).

Defense played a huge role in the physical battle against #4 JMU lead by Hecker with 3 take-aways and Robertson in goal. Althouse and Shashy stepped up with phenomenal games in the absence of Roos and Anderson's midgame injury. Offense had contributions from Burns (2 G), Slaughter (2 G), Clay (1 G & 1 A), and Martin (1 A). This past weekend's performance has bumped the Hoos up to a #3 national ranking. Big test this upcoming weekend at UMD's Beltway Bash with games against # 10 Loyola, #2 Rutgers, and #8 Salisbury, game times can be found on the Schedule page. Check out Ali Sport's Shots for UVA Club photos...Lynchburg and JMU are up!

The team is excited to announce the Inagural St. Patty's Day Kickoff Classic on March 17th, 2012. This event is aimed at engaging our team in community service and will bring together teams from Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Richmond, and Northern Virginia to participate in a U-15 round-robin to playoff-style tournament format. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Westhaven After School Program, an enrichment program aimed at helping to close the achievement gap that exists between students from different socio-economic communities.

Right now the team is looking for (6-12) U-15 teams to be feature in the tournament. We are looking to finalize our tournament roster by next week so if your organization is interested please sign up online as soon as possible! The team is also actively seeking donations and/or sponsorships from local businesses to help with this cause. Please see the tournament webpage for further details or contact Brendan Martin, our Philanthropy Chair.

Spring Season Kick-Off

The Spring Season is officially upon us and the Hoos are off to a great start. This past weekend the team travelled down to good ole' NOLA for our annual Mardi Gras Lacrosse Tournament with the UVA girl's team. We put up three impressive wins including the defending tournament champs, Tony's Tavern, and advanced to the championship. Worn out from a long weekend of Mardi Gras festivities, the Hoos were unable to secure the cup against the NY-based Salt Shakers.

The tournament was an all around success with no arrests or party-related hospital visits. Unfortunately, the team did suffer the loss of our valuable 1st year faceoff midfielder, Mark Rossi, to a broken thumb. NOLA pictures to follow shortly. The team has a great upcoming spring schedule and is in the process of adding a few more games/tournaments. Come support us this weekend at Carr's Hill vs. UNC @ 2PM and VT - Blacksburg @ 6PM.
