CO-OPERATIVE HOUSING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA

Welcome!

Welcome to CHÜVA! We create good places to live and foster a lively community of people. We have five houses near the University of Virginia, and we house graduate students, mature undergrads, and non-students.

What is CHÜVA?

CHÜVA is a member-run housing co-operative. A co-operative is a business that is run by the people who use it (rather than CEOs and shareholders). It is a alternative business model that is focused on meeting the needs of members than on making money. As a housing co-operative our goal is to eventually own and manage our own properties.

What we offer...

We currently manage five houses in the vicinity of UVA because most of our members are either students or employees of the university.
CHÜVA houses are characterized by social diversity, environmental consciousness, and democratic decision making. Some living habits include sharing food, having house meals, composting, recycling and meetings. We also enjoy having social events like open house dinners, dance parties, and game nights.
For a somewhat more whimsical side of things, click here for some responses by CHÜVA members on the topic of "What we like about CHÜVA co-op living."

Even though we do not always have immediate vacancies, we encourage those interested to join our email list and come to our social events.
