How do I connect to the Student Council Server to edit my website?
- Please see Connecting to the Server.
What program do I use to edit my website?
- There are many different types of programs you may use to build or edit a website. Which type is best to use depends on your level of experience. If you are new to website creation, you should use a design-based program (sometimes referred to as a WYSIWIG program) such as Microsoft Expression Web [PC or Mac], Adobe Dreamweaver [PC or Mac] or the free CoffeeCup Editor [PC Only].
If on the other hand you are familiar with HTML and/or CSS coding, you can use a purely text-based editor such as Notetab [PC Only] (Available from ITC), HTML-Kit [PC Only], Windows Notepad, or Macintosh SimpleText.
I have questions about domain names. Where do I get help?
- Please see the FAQs about Domain Names.
How do I access my database account?
- If your organization does not have a database account, please see Request Access for a Website or Database. If you already have a database account, use phpMyAdmin which is located at https://www.student.virginia.edu/mysql/phpmyadmin/.
How do I access my Student Council Server email?
- Student Council Server email is provided through the Google GMail service. Please see Google GMail accounts for Student Organizations.
What do I do if I want to use Fugu to connect to the server from my Macintosh, but am receiving the error "Warning: remote host identification has changed"?
- First, close down Fugu. Then, using the Apple Finder, search for a file called known_hosts. It will be located in /Users/username/.ssh/known_hosts where "username" is the user you log on to your Mac as. Once you locate this file, delete it. Then re-open Fugu and connect to the server; the known_hosts file will be automatically recreated with the proper remote host identification information in it.
What do I do if I want to use Fugu to open/edit a webpage file I transferred, but am receiving the error "Error: Couldn't find BBEdit.app to launch..."?
- Please see this website authored by Jessie Mihalik on editing the Fugu text editor preferences.
