Sisters dedicate a lot to our national philanthropy, Breast Cancer Awareness. While events are focused in October, BCA month, UVA aKDPhi supports BCA throughout the entire year. In the Fall of 2001, six UVA sisters became certified BCA educators, enabling them to educate the University and communities about breast cancer. Throughout October, sisters actively promote and host events for BCA and wear pink ribbon pins throughout the entire month to honor survivors and victims. Sisters also sell pins and raffle tickets to students and the community. All profits are donated to the Susan G. Komen BCA Foundation.
Events held througout BCA month include educational forums and informational sessions, where speakers and survivors are invited to hold discussions about breast cancer. Certified BCA sisters have also given interactive presentations about breast cancer. In 2000, UVA aKDPhi co-sponsored the Swing-a-Thon with Alpha Delta Pi. In 2001, our first ever BCA ACapella benefit concert was held to support the cause and is continued annually with huge success.
