Events

UVA aKDPhi sponsors and co-sponsors many events each year, from on Grounds at UVA to surrounding areas in Charlottesville and Virginia. Our events cover a large range of aspects, from service to awareness to social. Our name is everywhere!

Awareness Forums and Discussions
UVA aKDPhi has sponsored or has plans to sponsor forums and discussions on Breast Cancer Awareness, Hazing, Eating Disorders, Self-Segregation, and various topics, all open to the general community. Our discussions and forums are designed and geared towards focusing on minorities and shedding light on topics rarely discussed today.

Social and Large-Scale events
UVA aKDPhi not only sponsors our own parties throughout the year, but also holds bigger social events. We have sponsored "Melting Pot", a large potluck lunch for the UVA APA community as well as annual A Capella benefit concert for BCA. Over the winter and summer breaks, we host large-scale weekend parties in Washington D.C. -- AVALANCHE and KAPITOL EXPLOSION; and we even host UNITY during Thanksgiving break in conjunction with other sororities.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is a month full of events geared towards BCA. Please visit the service page to learn more about our events during October as well as specific service projects.
We look forward to summer 2006 with Kapitol Explosion VII, fall for Unity V and finally, to begin the 2007 with Avalanche VII.

Founders Week
During the week of February 7, aKDPhi nationwide celebrates our Founders Week, acknowledging when we were first established at UC-Berkely on February 7, 1990. During this week, UVA has distributed information with lollipops and cookies and has shown movies to the University community. We also hold various sisterhood events throughout the week.

Kapitol Explosion
Begun in the summer of 2000, KE is our annual sisterhood weekend held in July at the nation's capitol. Although some events are closed to just sisters, others are welcome to come for our open events. In the evenings, we arrange special entrances and rates for our sisters and friends to popular clubs and parties in D.C.

Avalanche
Over Winter break, UVA invites all sisters nationwide as well as friends to come join us in Washington D.C. for AVALANCHE, our annual winter party. The party, held in a club in Washington D.C., allows all sisters and friends to come together at a time and place outside of school since the Winter of 2001.

Unity
Unity is another annual party, begun in 2002. It is hosted during Thanksgiving break by UVaKDPhi sisters in unity with other aKDPhi chapters along the east coast and several other asian-interest sororities including Sigma Omicron Pi, Sigma Psi Zeta, and Kappa Phi Lambda.
