NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY

This year, more than 180,000 women in the United States will learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 40,000 women will lose their lives. Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women in America; however, early detection and prompt treatment can significantly reduce the effects of the disease. alpha Kappa Delta Phi proudly promotes our National Philanthropy - Breast Cancer Awareness, a project dedicated to increasing awareness about early detection of breast cancer.

In 1998, aKDPhi launched its first-ever national service project, dedicating 1998-99 to Breast Cancer Awareness by educating themselves, college campuses, and local communities. $4,500 was raised through pink ribbon pin sales and donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation; 13 chapters participated in the Race for the Cure; Every chapter hosted a BCA forum; Every chapter dedicated at least one project in October to BCA; Pink Ribbons were worn throughout a week in October to honor of Breast Cancer survivors and victims by all active KDPhis nationwide.
