ABOUT:
APALSA represents the views of the Asian Pacific American students at the University of Virginia School of Law; provides an academic and social network for the Asian-American law students at UVA; promotes the welfare of its members through educational, professional, cultural, and social programs; and reaches out to the Law School community on local and national issues pertaining to Asian-Americans. APALSA is open to Virginia Law students of every background.
PROGRAMS:
Mentor/Mentee Program
Our mentoring program pairs up 1Ls with 2L and 3L mentors who guide 1Ls throughout the entire school year. Mentors are a great resource for tips on where to eat, shop, and go out in Charlottesville. More importantly, mentors are an invaluable source of advice on career options and the 1L summer job search.
Career Guidance
We host workshops on job searching tactics for both private and public sector careers. APALSA also provides information on internships, clerkships, fellowships, scholarships, and job opportunities offered specifically to APA and minority students.
Outline Bank
We maintain an outline bank in our office that is available to all members who have paid their dues. Current members are encouraged to contribute to the outline bank by submitting outlines they have created. Please contact Edward Liang if you are interested.
APALSA Library
APALSA maintains an extensive library of casebooks and hornbooks in its office (SL 192d). Members are free to check out books from the library for as long as they want. Please contact Jonathan Brent if you are interested.
Programs
APALSA organizes programs to highlight APA issues. In the fall of 2004, a UCLA professor was invited to speak on the 60th anniversary of the Japanese internment and representatives from a New York law firm spoke on diversity in the workplace.
We co-sponsor events with other minority student groups at the law school and other APA groups in graduate programs at Virginia.
Social Events
Contributing to the vibrant social life at Virginia Law, APALSA organizes a wide variety of events throughout the year. APALSA regularly hosts potluck dinners, study breaks, and organization outings.
