The 2009 Mini Baja Car: “Leaky Peaches”

The 2009 UVA Baja team was a leap forward in Virginia engineering. Although 2008 and "GG" was a tough year to beat, the 2009 team designed and built a truly innovative car. With a completely redesigned frame, suspension, and powertrain, Leaky Peaches' performance surpassed GG and layed groundwork for a new era in Baja Racing. Racing at Auburn and Wisconsin, the team pulled impressive results at Wisconsin, racking up huge points in the dynamic events; however, the bane of the car, the Peach Can differential caused its undoing in the endurance race, coming in 57th overall. A problematic rear suspension mount as well led to some difficulties but the car was a success, and its unique and innovative design sets a precedent for future years to build off of. The 2009 team's 4th years will be missed with their incredible contribution to the team, and we wish them well in their successful futures. But the rest of the team looks to the 2010 year with tenacity and equivalent skill to grow the team in the years to come.
