Q. Hey! I'm really excited about coming to UVA and I can't wait to get involved with club swimming. When do you guys start?
A. First off, CONGRATULATIONS! UVA is awesome; you'll love it here. Practices will start sometime within the first week of classes. Be sure to check out our booth at the Fall activities fair, which is held the first week of school.
Q. How fast do I have to be to join?
A. Well, first off, you have to know how to swim. We are not the place to come if you want to learn for the first time. We are going to be implementing tryouts this year in the interest of keeping our membership at a manageable level. There is only a limited amount of pool space for us to use. This by no means should dissuade you from coming out to see what the club is like.
Q. What are dues going to be for the next semester?
A. The dues for fall semester will be $50 and those who paid dues in the fall will have a $10 discount in the spring semester. By paying dues you are entitled to...
Q. How do club meets work, do I need to bring my full body fast skin to fit in and keep up?
A. Please check out the meet results on our website to get a general feel of the level of competition at the club level on the east coast. It's not blazing fast and you'll definitely be able to have a great time. Club meets offer a competitive atmosphere without the stress of trying to make a certain time. The bottom line is that everyone is here to have fun. We try to make sure that it stays that way.
Q. I HATED morning practices, I DO NOT want to wake up at 5:30am, I DO NOT want to see the sun rise again in my college career! What's the practice schedule?
A. First off, seeing a sun rise is
inevitable while you are here at UVA. We guarantee some
all-nighters in the library. We try to cater practices to the
busy schedules of our club members.
Practices this past semester were:
Sunday: 5:30pm - 6:30 pm
Mon & Wed: 7:30pm - 8:30pm
Tues. & Thurs: 12:30pm - 1:30pm
Typical yardage: 3000
Q. Does the club provide any equipment?
A. Yes, the club provides pull-buoys and kickboards. Swimmers must provide their own suits, goggles, and caps.
We hope to see you at our first practice in the Fall!
