It is usually your SSN. For new students, you will get a temporary one starting with 000. Due to the strict policy on internationl students, we suggest change your temporary ID with SSN as soon as you get it. We will be able to pick up your student ID card after you come to UVA. You can also deposit money to your student ID card. This account is also called Cavalier Advantage. It is accepted almost throughout the University, like dining, copying, etc. For more information, visit ID Office. In addition to your University ID, another VERY Frequently used ID is your UVa computing ID. It's the your user name to access email, unix, Home Directory, and many other online resourses, although you may have different passwords on differnet systems. Before you come to UVA, you can activate your UVA computing ID and we STRONGLY RECOMMAND you to do so. To create your account, please refer HERE. In addition, UVA's ITC has a large collection of site-licensed free software. So you don't need to bring your own copy. It is REQUIRED by law that an international student register as a full-time student (12 credit hours for under and 9 credit hours for graduate) Fall & Spring semester to main legal F-1 status. You can complete (add/drop course) the registration through ISIS online with your University ID. Before you come to UVA, you can activate your computing ID and ISIS account and you can view your course in Course Offering Directory. It is NOT required. But if you want to enter into the gym or go to a concert, you need to pay it. Different departmetns will have different policy. Some pay the fee for students, some don't. Consult senior student in your department for details. Since 2003, there is an additional $50 International Service Fee. Again, it varies by department. |
