Mission Statement

To provide the opportunity for any University of Virginia student to "dance for the love of dance" in a noncompetitive, relaxed environment and offer members the chance to perform for an audience.

What is UDC?

The University Dance Club is an organization that provides the opportunity for UVA students to dance in a relaxed atmosphere. Dancer have the option to take performing or nonperforming classes. Performing classes require an audition, however one can take as many or as few of these classes as you would like. Each class has a separate audition. This means if you're only into hip hop, you only try out for hip hop. Likewise, if you're best at jazz and lyrical, then you don't even have to try out for any hip hop or ballet. It is as big a time commitment as you make it! All performing classes dance at the UDC show at the end of each semester. If you don't want to perform, non-performing classes allow students to have fun dancing without needing to make a semester-long commitment.

UDC is organized, run, and taught by students. An exec board of fellow dancers is elected each year to organize the club. Early in the semester, the exec board holds choreographer auditions for students wishing to teach a class. After the classes have been selected, the choreographers and exec board together hold general auditions for seperate classes. After that, the classes have approximately 8 weeks to learn the dance. At the end of the semester, UDC performs a show which is open to the public.

Membership in UDC is $15 per semester ($12 if you are only in non-performing). This allows you to take as many or as few classes as you wish. If you miss the deadline for dues, the price goes up to $20, so get it in on time!

• Anything else the choreographers can come up with!
