Almost all performing classes have auditions. This is necessary to keep the classes manageable. We encourage you to try out for as many classes as you want*, as you may not get into your first choice.
Seperate auditions are held for each class. The choreographer will teach a portion of their dance, and then you will perform it for the judges three at a time. The judges include two exec members and the choreographer(s). They will rate you on four categories: accuracy, movement, projection, and overall quality, each score being between 0 and 5. Be sure to ask exactly what each choreographer is looking for. These scores are averaged and used to get the final list.
Occasionally we will have an open class. No audition are required for this class. Entry will be offered on a first-come first-serve basis, and the class will be limited in size to about 25 (any bigger than that, and its just gets crazy!). The executive board will decide at choreographer auditions whether there is a dance that would work well with this open class.
* Dancers in an the Adv Hip Hop class are not allowed in the Int Hip Hop class, and visa-versa. The same holds for the Adv/Int Jazz classes. This allows more people to participate in these popular genres. |
