              Recently GSASC was involved in the negotiation with Chickering for the 2006-2007 Health insurance renewal.  The resultant from these meetings is detailed in the changes below to the student health plan for the 2006-2007 academic year.

· Continuation with the Chickering plan with no benefit modifications and an 11.5% increase in annual premium:
 ·        Student Only:  From $1,817 to $2,026
·        Spouse:  From $2,740 to $3,055
·        Child:  From $2,349 to $2,619
·        Children:  From $3,438 to $3,833

· Implementation of a hard waiver program for international students with these requirements:
·        If a Preferred Provider (PPO) network is provided, the PPO must offer adequate provider coverage within a 50 mile radius of Charlottesville.
·        Deductibles should be no more than $200 per illness or injury per insured.
·        Major medical benefits of at least $250,000 per insured per accident or illness.
·        Exclusions for pre-existing conditions may be no more restrictive than the Chickering plan.
·        Inpatient mental health care is paid at least 80% for the usual and customary fees with a 25-day cap.
·        Outpatient mental health - Minimum of 20 visits. 80% for visits 1-5, 50% for visits 6-20.
·        Maternity benefits treated as any other illness under the plan.
·        Coverage not excluded for suicide or attempted suicide.
·        Inpatient/Outpatient Prescription Medication coverage (after co-pays) with a minimum of $1,000 per insured per policy year.
·        The policy provides a minimum of $10,000 for "repatriation of remains" or "medical evacuation" to the home country.
·        Benefits paid to a student or dependent under any plan prior to the student's initial policy effective date cannot be counted against the maximum benefit payable      under the policy.
·        Coverage is prepaid and continuous for a minimum of six months and effective through August 1. Coverage taken after February 1 must be prepaid and continuous  through August 1.

· Continuation with the United Concordia dental plan with no benefit modifications and the following increases in annual premium:
·        Student Only:  From $267 to $300.
 ·        Student + One Adult:  From $531 to $597.
 ·        Student + One Child:  From $462 to $520.
 ·        Student + Two or More Children: From $755 to $849.
 ·        Student + Family:  From $917 to $1031.
