Funding Requests
    Josh Davis, 10th Annual German Graduate Studies Conference
  • Title of the Conference is "Verwandlung: Transformation in German Literature and History"
  • Takes place Feb. 21-23, 2003
  • Average attendance is about 60 people
  • Requesting $1800 of $3250 budget
  • Have requested funds from numerous other sources

    Athanassios Vergados, 7th Classics Graduate Student Colloquium
  • Title of the colloquium is "Time and Memory"
  • Takes place Feb. 22, 2003
  • Requesting $1500 of $3250 budget
  • Have already requested funds from numberous other sources
  • requesting $700 out of $3090 budget
  • have requested funding from several other sources
  • workshops accept all who are interested; no charge this year
  • council approved $700 in funding

    Art History Conference
  • Council approved funding request of $1000 after debate and passage of a motion via email
  • Conference takes place this weekend
  • Conference organizers have reduced their budget by $2700
  • Requesting an additional $1000
  • Conference organizers have yet to hear a decision from Art History department re: a funding request

Treasurer's Report

  • Our current balance of allocatable funds is $29,400, not counting a standard $1000 cushion
  • We approved $3600 of funding requests in October
  • Tonight's funding requests total $4100
  • Starr Hill party came in ~$400 under budget

Consideration of Funding Requests

  • Motion passed to fund German Conference for $1800 (same as last year's level)
  • Motion passed to fund Classics Colloquium for $1300 (same as last year's level)
  • Motion passed to fund Art History Conference for an additional $700 (for a total of $1700, an increase of $200 over last year's level)

President's Report

    Dean Brunjes wants to assemble resources for international graduate students
    An undergraduate committee wants to institute a competitive application process to determine allocation of grad rooms in West Range and East Range; Grad Council is open to hearing a presentation from this group at a future meeting

GLU Report

    Protest Rally
  • GLU Rep is absent
  • Some confusion concerning why the rally was canceled, and with so little notice

StudCo Report

    One StudCo rep is absent; the other has resigned
  • We need a new studco rep

Honor Report

    Honor rep is absent

Departmental Concerns

    Research Exhibition
  • No one has stepped up to assume responsibility for organizing the research exhibition
  • Sentiment was that we want to hold an exhibition in some form
  • We will open the search for an exhibition chair to all grads to try to fill the position
