Funding Requests
Women's Center International Series
* Requested $1000
* Council wanted to know: a) an itemized budget b) previous funding by GSASC c) Methods of advertising
11th Annual German Graduate Studies Conference
* Requested $2000
* Council approved $1500 with stipulation that more funds can be requested if more information was provided about need.
Treasure's Report
Council has about $27,000 to spend...
* Need to change funding request form to indicate if council has given money in the past and how much those funds were.
Committee's progress reports
Research Exhibition
* Two co-chairs are needed to organize the research exhibition for March.
* Council approved $400 to be allotted to each co-chair
* Current Budget allows $500 for catering, $100 for facilities to set up posters
Speaker Series
* "The Talk You Always Wanted to Give but Never Had the Opportunity"
* Student Lunch with Speaker after talk, with 30-35 students able to RSVP
* Budget for each event $300-$350 for Food and Gift Certificate for Speaker (Topic Dependant)
Social Committee
* Cheryl to head with volunteers from other departments
* Lori Casteen (Administration) "wants more graduate and professional student to party together"
Visitors
Alex Byrd and Chris Lawrence - (DJs) to discuss the Halloween Party, but organizers were not in attendance
Vice Presidents Report
* National Association of Graduate and Professional Students are lobbying against taxing stipends.
* Lobbying days Nov 5th - 7th
* Volunteers needed to for trip, please email Kurt if interested
* Council approved reimbursement of Kurt's travel expenses if allowed.
GLU Report
* Working to elevate the increased Research Fee
* Working to question the International Processing Fee
* Concerned about student health insurance for the next school year.
Student Council Report
* Started a Fund for the Arts. The Student Arts Committee is accepting applications for funding independent student art projects. There is $5,000 to give away to students. For details, contact Rebecca Menges at rem3v@virginia.edu.
* Working to further alleviate pay-for-printing burden.
* Developing a student initiative for diversity. Meetings are at 9 p.m. in the StudCo Workroom every Wednesday night.
* HooBay. A flea market to raise money for your favorite CIOs. Oct. 22 in the Amphitheatre, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* HOMECOMINGS.Oct. 24, Mad Bowl: Come for fun, music and food! ***Special Thanks to the SEVEN SOCIETY for the $10,777.77 gift toward Homecomings***
* Women's Wellness Week - exciting events celebrating a holistic vision of Women's Health, Nov. 3-7.
* Voice your concerns during the Community Concerns portion of Student Council meetings, held every Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the South Meeting Room of Newcomb Hall.
Honor Report
* Look out for a TA reception in the winter to show appreciation of TA's
