The Cowan Fellows Human Rights Study Project (HRSP) is a student-run organization at the University of Virginia School of Law dedicated to promoting awareness of legal issues surrounding the development and protection of human rights in foreign countries.

Law student members will produce original academic research and provide the UVA Law community with presentations on contemporary developments in international human rights law.

For the tenth year of the program, the Cowan Fellows traveled to Sri Lanka over winter break to examine various human rights issues in the country. Members researched individual topics that covered a wide range of interests, from property rights among displaced peoples to efforts at post-war reconciliation.

HRSP is open only to second and third-year University of Virginia law students. Members of HRSP XI, the 2012-2013 group, have been selected and the application process is now closed.

It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization’s contracts, acts or omissions.
