One of the core purposes of fraternal organizations is scholarship, a tenet that is extremely important to the IFC and its member fraternities. IFC fraternities at the University provide a strong academic support network for their members by allowing men to study and address academic concerns together. This interplay is only heightened as fraternity members advise one another on effective study strategies, quality courses, and avoiding academic pitfalls.

As a result, the average GPA of IFC fraternity men is consistently higher than the all-male average GPA and all-student average GPA. There are also numerous Jefferson, Rodman, Echols, Holland, and Ridley scholars throughout the Greek community. In addition to providing members academic support, IFC fraternities work to establish and build relations with faculty members through the Faculty Fellows program and sponsor forums that enhance the understanding of the world in which we live.

Greek Endowment Scholarship

Each year, the IFC accepts applications for the Greek Endowment Scholarship, which is awarded to a 3rd- or 4th-year student in an IFC fraternity. Applicants are evaluated based on academic merit, need, involvement in the Greek system, contribution to the University and Charlottesville community as a whole, and personification of the values of brotherhood. For more information, please contact Jackson Hill, the IFC Chairman for Faculty Relations and Scholarship.

Membership Education

The IFC is committed to educating both new and active members of IFC fraternities on issues that face college students. Each fraternity is required to fulfill certain educational requirements annually in order to maintain a relationship with the University and the IFC. Topics of interest include sexual assault, personal safety, substance abuse, liability, hazing, and discrimination. Additionally, the IFC works with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to facilitate new member education programs after the rush period each spring. For more information, please contact Penn Daniel, the IFC Chairman for Membership Education.
