An Invitation from the Secretary-General
Dear Delegates and Faculty Advisors,
It is my pleasure to invite you to the 28th Virginia Model UN held at the University of Virginia. Since its birth in 1945, the United Nations has been charged with the noble mission of defending human rights and establishing justice for all nations. For 27 years, VAMUN has sought to perpetuate these dignified ideals in order to prove that a younger generation can excel at diplomacy.
In this spirit, The International Relations Organization is proud to host one of the leading Model United Nations conferences in the country. VAMUN offers creative, historic, and futuristic crisis simulations in addition to innovative General Assemblies. VAMUN XXVIII will prove to be the most individually catered conference yet, where students can expect small committees that foster an environment of engagement for both novice and experienced participants. The University of Virginia, the pride of Thomas Jefferson, is the ideal location for this exchange of knowledge in the spirit of international relations. The idyllic grounds have been walked by the greatest political minds of American history and continue to host international figures of prominence today.
As the world becomes increasingly connected through technologies and economies, knowledge of foreign nations is more crucial than ever before. VAMUN XXVIII delegates will confront many global crises such as child malnutrition, civil wars, and the evolving world order. The ideas delegates form at VAMUN are stepping stones for future action in the global community. It is our hope that VAMUN XXVIII will impassion students to continue their pursuit for a global perspective.
In late April the committee and registration information for VAMUN XXVIII will be accessible online. With questions or concerns, I encourage you to contact me personally. I look forward to welcoming you to VAMUN XXVIII.
"In the 21st century, I believe the mission of the United Nations will be defined by a new, more profound awareness of the sanctity and dignity of every human life, regardless of race or religion," - Kofi Annan.
Sincerely,
Sarah Zauner
Secretary-General, VAMUN XXVIII
