Submissions

The Journal of Law & Politics publishes four issues per year: Spring, Summer, Fall, and  Winter.  We welcome submissions in the form of Articles, Essays, Book Reviews, Commentaries, or student-written Notes from judges, professors, practitioners, political leaders, law clerks, and law students.

Format:  We prefer, but do not require, Articles to be under 80 pages in length.  Submissions should be in Times 11 or a larger sized font, should have numbered pages, and should utilize footnotes instead of endnotes.  Footnotes should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (17th ed. 2000)

Means of Submission: We accept submissions either electronically or in hard copy form, but we strongly encourage electronic submissions, ideally through the BePress Expresso service but also by e-mail to submissions@lawandpolitics.net in Microsoft Word format. Hard-copy submissions should be addressed to:

The Journal of Law & Politics
Attn: Articles Development Editors
University of Virginia School of Law
580 Massie Road
Charlottesville, VA 22903

All submissions should include a cover letter, a copy of the submission, and a CV or resume.  Cover letters should be one page long at most and should prominently feature the following information:

1.  The piece's title,
2.  The author's e-mail address,
3.  The author's mailing address, and
4.  The author's daytime telephone number.

A brief description of the piece is welcome; a lengthy abstract is not.

Timing:  The best times to submit pieces are from mid-January through mid-April and from mid-August through mid-November.  We do not actively consider pieces over the summer (from mid-May through mid-August) or the winter holiday (from mid-December through mid-January) and will not respond to requests for expedited review during these times.

Expedited Review:  We consider requests for expedited review during the school year but not over the summer or the winter holiday.  Requests for expedited review should be sent via e-mail to submissions@lawandpolitics.net.   Requests should include the author's name, e-mail address, and daytime phone number; the date by which an answer is required; and the name of the other journal that has offered publication.  We will make every effort to reply to requests for expedited review in a timely fashion but may not always be able to reply if the deadline is extremely short.
