The University Judiciary Committee

You should have received a letter detailing exactly what you have to do as well as a deadline to complete your sanction. When you have completed your sanction you should fill out a sanction completion form (requires Adobe Acrobat PDF Document ) and hand it in to the UJC offices on the 4^th floor of Newcomb Hall by no later than 4 p.m. on the date that it is due.

Failure to complete your sanction by your deadline constitutes a violation of your sanction. Failure to hand in your sanction completion form on time also constitutes a violation of your sanction. If you violate your sanction, you may face additional penalties including but not limited to fines up to $100, community service and restrictions on University activities.

Once the University Judiciary Committee believes you to be in violation of your sanction you will be sent an official notification. If you do not reply to the notification within 14 days you will be suspended from the University. You do not have to complete your overdue sanctions in the 14 days to avoid suspension, but you do have to respond to the Vice-Chair for Sanctions and explain the reason why you have not completed your sanction in a timely fashion.

If at any time you have any questions or problems with completing your sanction you can contact your assigned UJC educator, but the only person who can approve any modifications or extensions is the Vice-Chair for Sanctions. No-one else can do so.

CHOICES

CHOICES The Choices alcohol education program is an evidence-based online curriculum hosted by 3rd Millennium Classrooms and coordinated by the Center for Alcohol and Substance Education (CASE). A number of studies show that people respond best to alcohol education programs that provide feedback, are nonjudgmental, emphasize personal responsibility, and give people several options for changing their drinking or drug use. This program combines each of these elements to engage students in a dynamic learning experience. Choices, called "Under the Influence" by 3rd Millennium, is a 7-lesson course that can be completed in about 3 hours. The course goal is to reduce the risk of students experiencing any type of alcohol- or drug-related problem at any point in life.

Marijuana Choices

Marijuana Choices 101 is an online marijuana education course hosted by 3rd Millennium Classrooms and coordinated by CASE. The program has six interative- lessons course that can be completed in about three hours. Designed to help students think critically about their drug use, this course combines personalized feedback, professional narration, interactive exercises, and techniques to engage students in a powerful dynamic learning experience. The course goal is to help student learn more about their own behaviors and risk factors.

Referral to Doctor Heisterman

The UJC refers students to Dr. Heisterman of Counseling and Psychological Services for an intake session to determine whether or not they have a problem with substance abuse. If he determines that further sessions are necessary then you will have to complete them, but only the intake session need be completed by the due date of the sanction.

Community Service

The following are typical community service sanction organizations. Please be aware that the due date given in your sanction is a reasonable estimate of the time needed to arrange and complete your sanction. It is recommended that you contact these organizations as soon as possible as they may not be able to accommodate you with community service at the last minute and this will place you in violation of your sanction. UJC can use a wide variety of community service organizations but please be aware that the UJC does not accept any community service performed through Madison House, given as part of a sanction by some other body, or for which the student receives payment.

SafeRide

SafeRide is an escort service provided by the University to help improve the safety of University community members at night. Each shift runs from midnight until 6 a.m. To arrange community service with SafeRide contact Off. Becky Campbell of the University Police Department at (434) 924-8845.

CASE

The Center for Alcohol and Substance Education provides the U.Va. community with educational activities and prevention programs related to substance abuse concerns. Students completing community service hours will be assigned a wide variety of tasks that support the mission of CASE. To schedule community service with CASE contact Debra Reed. Community service hours MUST be scheduled with CASE at least four weeks before the sanction completion date.

U.Va. Recycling

U.Va. Recycling works to reduce waste at the university and promote recycling. Students may help with a variety of tasks including the collection of recyclables. To arrange community service with recycling contact Sonny Beale.

U.Va. Housing
