Alumni Council Holds Annual Meeting
by J.T. Thornhill
It was a great early Fall weekend that welcomed the Madison House Alumni Council (MHAC) back to Charlottesville from September 11th - 13th. All twenty members of the MHAC were present for two and a half days focusing on alumni engagement in support of Madison House and its goals. The council welcomed seven new members: Anne Scharrff Bacon 1991, Bob Keppel 1990, Rashida Mitchell 1996, Christine Payne 1983, Kathryn Serra 1908, Kim Skibinski 1979, and Brian Yacker 1988.
Friday evening started off with an orientation dinner welcoming the new members followed by an all day meeting on Saturday and a half day on Sunday. During the course of the meeting the council members were given an update on the state of Madison House and its 40th Anniversary preparations as well as presentations by several current Head PD19s and representatives from the UVa Clubs and Office of Engagement.
Council members focused their attentions on ongoing efforts to engage both alumni and current volunteers in the mission of Madison House. One particular council wide project for the year is to partner with UVa Clubs across the country to help sponsor service events in celebration of Madison House19s 40th Anniversary. If you would like to be part of a service event in your area or want to know more about the 40th Anniversary, please e-mail Allison Scholl at allison@madisonhouse.org.
The MHAC accepts applications for membership each spring. If you would like to know more about what the council does or want to be notified about the next application cycle please contact Allison Scholl at the e-mail address above or the current council chair, J.T. Thornhill 1985 at Jtt35@aol.com.
