Hispanic/International Family Night
Our Community Partner: Albemarle County Regional Migrant Education
Albemarle County Regional Migrant Education has served the migrant community of the Albemarle County region for 38 years. Through migrant camp classes, individual tutoring in the home, and programs such as Hispanic and International Family Nights, Migrant Education gives support to new community members who are trying to adapt to the American school system and their new communities.
In cooperation with the Madison House Migrant Aid Program, Migrant Education creates the framework so that UVA volunteers can be effective in the community.
Migrant Education:
- Does all the necessary background work to create volunteering opportunities.
- Recruits, evaluates, and supports every family that Migrant Aid serves.
- Evaluates students' levels and helps recruit the right volunteers to work with that migrant student.
- Provides funding and gathers materials for volunteers to use with their students.
- Trains Migrant Aid volunteers and prepares them for their first night of volunteering.
- Provides teachers and supplies for migrant camp classes.
- Ensures a positive relationship between UVA volunteers and migrant families.
- Supports UVA volunteers throughout their tutoring experience through weekly communication.
- Tutors students throughout the summer when Migrant Aid volunteers are not available.
Basically, Migrant Aid serves as an extension of Migrant Education tutoring and teaching services with more than 75 volunteers each semester!

Weather Cancellation Information
**If Albemarle County Schools are closed, there will be no tutoring on that day**
**Call the Albemarle School Closing Line at (434) 296-5886 or watch NBC 29**
Since many of our tutoring sites require traveling on dirt roads or in areas that are easily affected by inclement weather, please be aware that tutoring might be cancelled in case of bad weather. Adult Tutoring sites are often cancelled if there has been consistent rain, snow, or other bad weather.
If tutoring is cancelled, your Program Director (PD) will contact you by email or by phone as soon as possible. If there is enough advanced notice of the cancellation, email will be the most likely means of communication. If you are concerned, you can also feel free to call your PD - please see PD Contact Information.
