Tutoring
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I have to miss a tutoring session?

Attendance at every tutoring session is mandatory. Consistency and commitment are very important to the relationship between tutor and student and to the relationship between Madison House and the Charlottesville/Albemarle community.

When scheduling a time to tutor, please take all of your other commitments into consideration and make sure that you will be able to attend every week. Studying for tests, catching up on work or sleeping late are not acceptable excuses for missing a tutoring session. Each tutor must complete at least 10 hours of volunteer time per semester.

If you must miss a session, please:

1. Notify your carpool/carpool driver immediately.

2. Notify your school/teacher (by calling the school's front desk or by emailing, depending on what teachers prefer).

3. Notify your Program Director by phone or email.

How do I know if school is cancelled?

Your Program Director should notify you of all school cancellations, field trips or other scheduling conflicts that interfere with tutoring.

Some resources may help, however, in cases when your PD has not had the chance to contact you about a cancellation.
