The Mission at Each Site:
Abundant Life
Abundant Life is an after school program for first through fourth graders. Our program aims to not only provide tutors, but also mentors, role models, and friends for the children.
Children, Youth, and Family Services
CYFS is all about helping kids in our community. Volunteers will interact with children and their parents at a bilingual early learning program on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:45-11:45 am(Spanish-speakers encouraged but not required) or helping with games and literacy kits for children's enrichment program on Tuesdays from 5:45 -7:45 pm. Saturday morning volunteers are also needed once a month.
Computers4Kids
Computers4kids is a non-profit organization that offers computer training and tutoring for underprivileged middle school and high school students in the Charlottesville Community.
I Have a Dream
The "I HAVE A DREAM" Foundation of Charlottesville" is a community organization which "academically adopted" the Class of 2012 at Clark Elementary School which is now at Buford Middle School. Our mission is to help these 69 "Dreamers" become productive citizens by providing mentoring, tutoring, and enrichment throughout their schooling. An opportunity for higher education is assured for each "Dreamer," as the foundation has committed to pay college tuition to "Dreamers" who graduate from high school.
Science Fair Mentoring Project
The Science Fair Mentoring Project matches UVA students with children at the elementary, middle and high school levels to provide guidance in completing a Science Fair project, and foster role-model relationships between the students and the volunteer.
Teens Give
To provide well-supervised and high interest service learning experiences and skill-building activities for community youth while promoting youth volunteerism, community involvement, character education, social values and awareness, and a successful transition to adulthood.
Virginia Discovery Museum
To establish relationships between the mentors and children by using hands-on-learning to stimulate imaginations and encourage cooperative learning. The museum allows both children and adults to be educators as well as learners in a unique environment that fosters creative self-expression.
