Welcome to the Organization of Young Filipino Americans' website! Maera A. R. Andres | 2nd Year | "In the works"

Why did you want the position you currently hold?
  • To culture other people (yes, I used it as a verb) since I've had previous cultural experiences back in Virginia Beach such as traditional dances, fundraisers, and international conventions thanks to the Bicol Youth Assocation of Tidewater (BYAT). Plus, it's SINGKIL this year so we plan to make it epic!
If you could have any other position in OYFA at this very moment, what would it be and why?
  • Social--So I can live the life that Adrian Santos leads.
What does it means to you to be Filipino?
  • Other than having the blood or descent, to me, it's really believing and implementing the values we hold within our families and the culture itself. Some disown this culture unfortunately, and I'm not asking anyone to declare it to the world but be proud of who you are and how you were raised! No matter what you may do in life or how old you are, your family will always accept you and bring you back. This is what makes our Philippine culture so beautiful;)
If you had three wishes, what would they be?
  1. Be a ventriloquist--it just boggles my mind of how people can throw their voices! How is this even physically possible?! Plus, I'd freak people out if we were in a dark room. Not that I'm creepy or anything
  2. X-ray vision--because sometimes, you just need to know
  3. To be able to make anyone's life easier..whether it's alleviating their pain or helping them to a better state than they were before in my career
I'm just joking about wish #2. Wish #2 is me officially declaring my major. That's the day when trumpets will ring and the Angels sing.

Why did you want the position you currently hold?
  • I love OYFA. Enough said.
If you could have any other position in OYFA at this very moment, what would it be and why?
  • I wouldn't switch my position - I love being a Culture Momma to my beautiful Babies, and I am SO PUMPED for BARRIO! <3
What does it means to you to be Filipino?
  • Yummy food, community, yay!
If you had three wishes, what would they be?
  1. More hours in the day so I could actually catch up on my work.
  2. Wish the dining halls had yummier food - aka: I wish every night was boneless fried chicken night. YUM.
  3. I wish I lived closer to Grounds so I could walk instead of taking the bus everyday! I feel so far from home when I'm on Grounds.
