Mah-wage. It's what bwings us two-gevah two-day
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm starting to feel like the last pep band alum that's not married, or about to be married. Seriously, has this band ever seen such a high volume of marriages in this short a time?
I think it all started back when Bill Pemberton and Jill Seeks got hitched in the Chapel back in 1997. It was a slippery slope from there. Sarah Rasmussen married Julian (aka Anthony) and males everywhere gave a big sad collective sigh. Noel Munson and Anne Pettengill got hitched, solidifying them always as figureheads for encouraging debaucherous behavior. Edward Kuo got hitched up in Michigan to wonderful Kendra. Then, there was the inevitable union of Das Booty couple of infamy, Dan Oz and Emily Franklin, in June 2000. Lori Lawson and Wade Craig soon followed the trend, in a special ceremony out in Crozet.
And who could predict that Chris Brubaker (aka Bru) and Dan Ellison would NOT marry each other, but instead have back to back October ceremonies. Dan was rumored to shout a big, "Woooooo!" after kissing Kristie at the Chapel. And Jeff Hawkins tells me that Bru was heard muttering the words "Chow Box" after kissing his new bride. I don't doubt it. Rumors circulate that Whiff (aka Chris Whiffen) will be joining his cohorts by getting hitched next summer.
I've also heard that Animal (aka Andrew McCullough) joined the mile high club and then proposed marriage to a stewardess he's been dating for awhile. I have also heard report of Laurie Opp's impending union with that guy she started dating her fourth year. And there's the proposal of Bryan Smouther to Amy Forestell. Amy's housemates seem anxious for the day they get married and Bryan will move into his own place. J And Liz Blankenship and John Harmon will be tying the knot once the moon is in the 7th house... or something like that.
Whew... I think that's everybody. I am sure that by the time this article goes out, more of you will have decided to jump ship too. But, what about those unmarried people? Aren't they doing anything with themselves?
We're Staying Single! (at least for now)
A bunch of people went back to school this year. Beta Ingersoll came back to Cville to get a nursing degree. Pete Tait finally got himself into a med school! Ed Hardy is back in school at UVa, and will be headed to film school after that, I hear. And Jessica Bungard (that's me!) will be headed to Law School in Pittsburgh next year.
Some people will always be in school. BethAnne Freeborn is never going to leave Cville, because she is doing an Economics PhD at UVa, while Rafi Berkson competes for the same challenge at UT Austin. Shannon Harper is digging in on a BioChem Masters at Southwestern Medical in Dallas.
And what about those working stiffs? Well, Jeff Hawkins seems to finally be kicking up some dirt over there in Hollywood. Kelly Stoehs is playing a new game in an investment firm in Atlanta. Dan Costanzo actually found a band to let him tour with them, the Travis Allison Band. Leah Slife works with dorky scientific types (still! J) and sharp objects at a surgical instruments company. Amanda Easter is teaching little kids how to shake their butts as a schoolteacher up in Crozet, Va. Good old Shana Pardue works more than anybody, holding three jobs: one with eye doctors, one with horses, and the other with lots of wine…quite an interesting combination. SeanMike Whipkey makes too much money, as do Bubbles and Themis. Mmmm... corporate America. And everybody else has started working at ITC with Bill Pemberton as well, at least Bunky (aka John Raynor) and Dan Oz have.
So, I know that can't be all the pep band alumni news out there. Did you notice how this article focuses on recent alumni more than others? Don't you wish I had said something about you? If either one is the case, email me at jmb5r@alumni.virginia.edu your news or gossip about other people and I'll be sure to see to it that they print the embarrassing stories in the next CSRU you get in the mail!
