Hail, traveler! Welcome to the home page of Psi Phi, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Club of the University of Virginia.
Weekly meetings this semester will be at 7pm on Tuesdays in the Pav. The "Pav" is the Pavilion XI Food Court, which is on the first floor of Newcomb Hall. The Pav is on the opposite side of the brick patio from the UVa Bookstore, and it's not the same thing as Newcomb Hall Dining Facility, which is the cafeteria on the second floor of Newcomb. Once you are in the Pav, you should be able to locate us one of several ways:
Psi Phi is dedicated to providing UVa students with a comfortable group setting in which to discuss, enjoy, ridicule, and otherwise revel in all things science fiction and fantasy. As you might expect from what you already know about sci-fi fans, we're a fairly eclectic bunch, made up of art and literature majors, computer geeks from the E-school, undergrads, grads, as well as maybe the occasional alien or supernatural creature. Our meetings are chaotic events, with some people engaging in heated discussions of Middle-Earth politics while others prefer to lurk in the corners and enjoy the spectacle.
An important disclaimer: There are no "qualifications" for being a Psi Phi member. You don't have to pass some literacy test in the field of science fiction literature just to come hang out with us. If you're friends with anybody who is a sci-fi or fantasy fan, you'll probably get along with us well, too. Also, we know that there is at least as much bad sci-fi in the world as there is good. So, if you want to join us just because you want to make fun of Luke Skywalker's whiny dialog or Star Trek's ridiculous costumes, that is just as cool as wanting to be a Jedi knight or a Viper pilot when you grow up.
So, whoever you may be, feel free to take a look around our web site. The most important link here is the one which points to our mailing list, which you can subscribe yourself to either by going to that page or by contacting Matt Prince, our Comm Ossifer. The mailing list is used for announcements of our weekly meetings and other events. General questions about the club can either be posted to the list or sent directly to our Captain, Michelle Reaves.
