Sept. 25th- The 1999 UVA Quizbowl Intramural Tourament
Nov. 5-6th- The Annual Maryland Terrapin Invitational, we sent three teams. Congratulations to everyone, especially John who was the fourth highest scorer. The A team (John, Katie, Anthony, Mat) went 6-7. The B team (Robbie, Meghan, Ben Grosz, and Matt Schiffler) went 2-11. And the C team (Mike Weiss, Mike Habib, Michael Loatman, and Chris Husser) went 0-13. All in all, we were vastly improved from last year- go us!
Nov. 20th- NAQT Conference at Virginia Tech, we sent three teams, two Division I teams and one Division II team. Congrats to everyone!! Especially to John who was the number two high scorer. The A team (John, Katie, Alex, Minh) went 11-3 to come in third. The B team (Mike Weiss, Rachelle, Matt Schiffler, Anthony) went 7-7 and came in 8th. Our Division II team (Chris Husser, Michael Loatman, Jeff) came in sixth in the Division II bracket.
Spring 2000
Jan. 21-22nd- PennBowl!! at the University of Pennsylvania, we sent one team. Go us! We (John, Katie, Minh, Steve) came in second in our bracket (with a record of 13-1, our only loss to Maryland A. In the octifinals, we beat GWU, but lost to Case Western Reserve from Ohio in the quarterfinals, ah well. So we tied the best ever performance of a UVA team at Penn Bowl. All in all a good tournament.
Jan. 29th- Juan Carlos Viscerra VI at The George Washington University, we (Anthony, Katie, Levi, and Michael Loatman) won 3 and lost 7, but hey, that's okay. We had fun anyway. The tournament was superbly run :-)
Feb. 11-12th- NAQT Sectionals which we hosted. The day was won by Penn State A, but we are pretty proud of our Division II A team (Levi, Ahbi, Ben Grosz, and Drew) who took first place in Division II and qualified us for Division II for Nationals in Boston! We're also proud of our Division II B team (Mike Weiss, Allen, and Julie Moore) who did super as well. Congratulations to everyone and thank yous to everyone who helped out (especially Meredith, John, and Katie).
Feb. 26th- ACF Regionals at UMD-College Park, we sent two teams- Virginia A (Anthony, Mat, John, and Levi) went 13-1 with one loss to CWRU. Virginia B (Alex, Mike Habib, Katie, Allen, Michael Loatman) went 1-13 with one win against Penn State. Congrats to everyone, especially John who was the number two high scorer!
Mar. 25th- Wahoo War of the Minds 2000, held at UVA. Thank you to all the people who came to help out and all the people who moderated and/or kept score. Thank you to the question writers, especially Eric Owens and those Wichita people who swapped packets with us! Our home team (Mat, Drew, Abhi, Mike W.) tied for fifth place with five wins and seven losses.
Apr. 7-8th- NAQT Nationals at Boston University. It was quite an adventure coordinating eight people flying to Boston! Our Division I team (Anthony, John, Minh, and Katie) placed 16th in Division I with a record of 8-7. Our Division II team (Levi, Ben Grosz, Drew, and Abhi) placed 14th in their division with a record of 7-7. Go us! Congratulations especially to John who was the tournament's number five All-Star!
Apr. 22nd- ACF Nationals at UMD-College
Park. We sent one team (Anthony, John, Mat, and Katie) which placed
fourth overall, with a record of 10-4 and losses to Chicago A, Michigan,
Harvard, and Illinois. Good for us! Congratulations especially
to John who was the number two high scorer!
