Mar 6 DSHIT 5 at the University of Maryland. Chris wrote a good summary of this tournament, here it is for your reading pleasure: "Well Sports Fans, today's tournament was a really exciting trip. The UVA team was just Ben Mudrak and Chris Manteuffel. In the final planned round, if UVA won, they would have been the champions. As they lost to UMd, instead the created a four way tie with Princeton and Swarthmore. This meant that there needed to be a two round, single elimination playoff to break the four way tie (everyone had gone 1-1 against the other #1 teams). UVA was the fourth seed (determined by PPG) so they got to play Princeton in the first playoff-playoff round. It came down to the last question absolutely tied. The last question was "Shiite Muslims", and everyone in the room sat on it to make sure that they didn't miss and lose the game by default. UVA won the buzzer race and went on to the championship game. They beat Maryland in that game, and became the DSHIT V Champions. They had truly atrocious bonus conversion, but were able to get so many toss-ups that they kept winning. They were the only two-person team to make the four way tie, all the other ones were four person teams. Chris Manteuffel was the neg champion and came in second in PPG. A very exciting tournament."
Apr 5-6 NAQT Nationals at UNC Chapel Hill. We sent a Div I team (Steve, John, Chris, Ben, and Katie) which went undefeated during bracketed round robin play. In the playoffs, we did pretty well, with only one loss to Michigan A and so we entered the championship series with the Michigan team needing only one win and us needing two to claim the title. We were horribly humiliated when, in front of a lot of people, Michigan won the first game 575-95 to claim the overall title. But we got 2nd place. And that's pretty good too.
Apr 13 NAQT Virginia HS Championship won by TJ A.
Apr 19-20 ACF Nationals at GWU (moved to Maryland). Our team (John, Chris, Ben) went undefeated through their bracket to take 4th place in the finals. Congratulations to John who was the highest overall scorer with 79.38 PPG!!
