Why Give?
Gifts to the University Guide Service can be used in many ways:
  • Host Receptions on Reunions Weekend
  • Host a Homecoming Reception for UGS alumni
  • Publish and mail The Guiding Light
  • Print and post organization advertisements and try-out information at the beginning of each semester
  • Print tour evaluation cards for Admission and Historical Tours
  • Alleviate costs for current members, including:
    • membership dues
    • Jefferson Cups for Little Guides
    • Member Pins for new Guides
  • Maintain a small discretionary fund for emergencies
Funds given to UGSAN can be used to create a general endowment which can be used for either alumni or undergraduate purposes. Some examples include:
  • eventually purchasing and maintaining Pavilion VIII
  • sponsoring a graduate fellowship for (a) student(s) who will research the history of the University or other subjects beneficial to the University Guide Service
  • sponsoring a chair in the History department
  • participating in capital campaigns around Grounds (Colonnade Restoration, etc.)
  • maintaining an alumni support network
  • other purposes defined by the UGSAN membership
A gift of any size is helpful to the organization. As an example, you may know that UGS awards a pin and a Jefferson Cup to each of its new members as a symbol of their membership in the organization. Pins are expensive, and have caused Probie dues to rise to nearly $70. Big Guides have traditionally provided the Jefferson Cups as a gift to their Little Guide. However, the financial burden of Big Guiding has begun to make it difficult for Guides to serve in this role for more than a single semester - and we've had shortage of Big Guides for the last two semesters. As a result, we're looking to endow the awarding of Jefferson Cups and Pins. Hopefully, this will make the Guide Service a more enjoyable experience for all of our members.

We sincerely appreciate any support you are able to provide.
