The Virginia Unitarian Universalist Students (VUUS, pronounced "views") are the
Unitarian Universalist group on the Grounds of the
University of Virginia, and serves as a liberal religious home for members of the University
community. VUUS was formed in 1996 when three UU students gathered together for weekly lunches at the Pav.
We're happy to be getting a fresh start this semester, with weekly meetings and various other social and service events. There's no process to formally join VUUS and we have no dues. Just join us for our meetings and fun social events! We gather to explore questions of meaning and value, to share our stories, to support each other in justice-seeking, and to create a safe space to acknowledge our delights and our struggles.
The Unitarian Universalist community in Charlottesville incorprates undergraduate and graduate students at UVA, Charlottesville residents, and members of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church. View the links page for details. We welcome anyone with an open mind to participate.
VUUS maintains a close relationship with the
Thomas Jefferson Memorial Church, the local Unitarian Universalist church, and with its
ministers, David and Leslie Takahashi-Morris. We go together to the regular Sunday morning service at 11:15. If you would
like to join us there, contact Laura Horn for a ride (295-5079).
VUUS is governed democratically, in agreement with our shared principles, and has regular governance meetings approximately once a month which are normally separate from the regular meeting. Those meetings are announced on the VUUS email announcement list.
Although VUUS has members who are University of Virginia students and may have University employees associated or engaged in its activities and affairs, the organization is not a part of or an agency of the University. It is a separate and independent organization which is responsible for and manages its own activities and affairs. The University does not direct, supervise or control the organization and is not responsible for the organization's contracts, acts or omissions.
