Students at the University of Virginia considering joining the Washington Society should come to one of our early meetings in the fall or spring semester. The first three meetings are specifically designed to show potential members what the Society is about and to welcome them to our organization. The first, named the Chapel Meeting since it is often held in the University Chapel, is a showcase of some of our best debaters and presenters of literature. The next, the Humorous Meeting, showcases our more playful side with a slate of presentations from the lighter side of literature and a debate with a substantially less grave tone. These are followed by the Signing of the Roll, where potential members become provisional members and initiate their entry into the Society. A host of additional social and society-related events follow, far too numerous and exciting to list in one place. The Washington Society will also be at activities fairs and will have small social events so that interested students may pose questions before or in addition to attending one of our meetings.
