The VWRFC plays two seasons a year. The fall season runs from September through November, and the spring season runs from January through May. Practices are held for two hours every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and matches are held on weekends. There are 26 active members on the team this year, with an average of 25 players present at each match. The team is coached by Nancy Kechner, PhD (hence the name "Dr. Skippy"), who works for the Department of Psychiatric Medicine at UVa as a Behavioral Medicine Project Coordinator. Before coming back to Virginia she coached the Princeton women to the first Collegiate Nationals, where they placed third in 1992.
In addition to regular season matches, the VWRFC competes at the Ed & Sandy Lee Cup, the state championship tournament held in Roanoke, Virginia. In addition, we encourage players to attend the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union (NARFU) All-Star tournament. In the beginning of the spring season, usually around the beginning of March, the VWRFC hosts its annual Virginia Women's Invitiational Tournament.
